We do a pinning ceremony and it is very nice but very simple. We may change to white coats when we change to entry level OTD.  We have a keynote speaker (try to get an alumnus who is inspirational), they recite a pledge, and come up to be pinned by their research mentor - then refreshments.

I know other programs that have a formal pin dinner with family members and such present.

Best wishes - Jan Tona

Subject: [OT-PD List - AOTA] - OT Ceremony

Hi all,

We have decided to institute a ceremony to celebrate our students completing the first year of the program, transitioning from didactic learning to a greater focus on clinical practice. Our school’s PT, PA, and Audiology programs award white coats. We are thinking about a pinning ceremony, but I wanted to poll the group to see if you were doing anything similar/different.

Thanks in advance for your input,
