Good morning colleagues,

I have spent the weekend, like most of you, digesting the statements from AOTA and ACOTE, as well as the discussion shared on this platform.  I have already contacted our ALC chair in support of developing a statement regarding the destabilizing impact to professional programs and our commitment to move forward under the current authority of the ACOTE mandate reaffirmation.

However, in my review of all the materials and attempts to fully understand the history and perspectives, I am missing many primary sources and find the lack of transparency deeply concerning.

At the heart of the lack of transparency is the fact that no minutes from any BOD meetings have been posted online since January 2018. It is clear there was an abrupt change in the position of the BOD and no information about how this decision came about, why the BOD changed their mind to head down this path, and the justification for taking this action. Where are the minutes to reflect conversations had, motions introduced with votes taken, legal counsel reports, conversations with the ACOTE chair that occurred before an ultimatum was delivered to them in July?

For instance, in the letter from the board this past week regarding the mandate, “In July 2018 the BOD passed a resolution”. Where are the minutes? Also where are the minutes from:

The standing BOD meeting in February?
The standing BOD meeting in June?
Any conference calls since January 2018?
Summary/record of conversations with legal counsel regarding this situation with ACOTE or legal counsel discussing the issue with the BOD, including their position and the justification supporting AOTA to take this action?

Additionally, it is my understanding that one of the shared resources between AOTA and ACOTE is the website and that AOTA is responsible for posting announcements, statements, and official documents, including minutes.  If that is the case, there is a continued concern with the lack of recent ACOTE meeting minutes (last date posted Dec 2017).

If all of this was done in full transparency as a part of a "national conversation" in the best interest of the Association...was any of it on the record?

I am attaching the bylaws policy that requires the dissemination of this documentation, knowing that AOTA is not interested in being in violation of their own bylaws as they move forward in these actions. I know we all look forward to reading the minutes and hearing about what was discussed with the ACOTE council chair and legal counsel at any one of the meetings mentioned above that have taken place since January 2018.

Occupational Therapy is a health and wellness profession that assists people in developing the skills they need to participate in everyday life where they live, learn, work and play.

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
