We have a small budget to support capstone needs, tied to our clinical education budget line. We have them submit an expense request form that asks them to clarify if the items purchased will come back to our resources at the college or be a permanent part of their project at the hosting site. We’ve checked out assessments and equipment to the students as well and have had some advocate to their site strongly enough that the site purchased the equipment.

We do not have a formal capstone supplies budget, but, especially when students are near by they are welcome to use the copy machine or laminator, craft supplies, or assessment tools. We have a lot of people in settings with no OT (yet!) and it is helpful if you can support the students' work in any small ways.

Students should definitely look at charitable contributions or foundations associated with their sites. One of our students this semester got $2000 from a foundation associated with her site to help implement the program she developed. That will make things much easier for her and probably more successful for her project and clients.

This is interesting, we do not budget for providing assistance to capstone students. They are advised early on that this will be their responsibility.

Given this we do have a fund that was established through our Alumni office by a graduate of the program, the wish of this individual was to support students who are interested in providing service to children and their families in rural ND and MN. We have had two students apply (one from each of our first two cohorts) and each one asked for about 200 for continuing education workshop fees and a few resources.

I thought we would have more student interest, but the catch is rural and many students don’t want rural initially.
