It is truly delightful that so many of you have volunteered to contribute to this valuable service. I also appreciate that Francie included some guidelines for doing evaluation letters. This is wonderful!

An additional layer is that faculty who are reviewers need to be at the rank and track (tenured or not) that the reviewee is applying for (or greater). There are very few OT faculty who are at the full professor level and tenured. In my personal experience, I am very likely to agree to evaluate a packet of someone who is applying to move to Professor, especially those who are on the tenure track. However, it is very difficult to do all the additional promotion reviews that I get asked to do each year. Department chairs/program directors, can you please find people at the appropriate rank to ask for promotion reviews? I have a great faculty who are willing to help! I have them indicate this service on their CVs (minus identifying information) so that they get credit for this important service.

Promoting people within your departments is an incredible service for the field of academic OT at large. People who remain at junior ranks are not as visible within their institutions and nationally. I encourage all of us to support our junior folks to find a way to promotion. OTs have so much to offer the academic world!

Good morning all,

One of the requirements for faculty promotion at many universities is review by professionals who are external to the university.  This has become a very difficult task to accomplish.  I know that myself and others at my university do these on a regular basis, yet are often refused when we ask others. Is there a way that we, as PDs, can encourage faculty to support each other and contribute to our profession by saying "yes" to providing external reviews?

We often call on the folks we know and that can be very limiting.  Yet, people we know are often more likely to respond positively.  So,  Is there a way to build a resource or support system for each other?
