I absolutely support this. In addition to questions needing investigation via surveys, I recommend we work on facilitating student research via an array of research designs, including experimental designs and qualitative approaches employing interviews and observation. Perhaps we can also address how the results of the student studies can more readily be disseminated, so that the findings are available to all. Sincerely, Grace Fisher Grace S. The questions I would also like to see included are: -given the current emphasis on IPE, how much emphasis will/should we place on forging a unique model for OT education? -amongst our group of educators, how many of us participate with external groups that focus on pedagogical research? Are there any insights/takeaways that would be valuable to consider as a professional community? Should we forge partnerships with any of these professional communities/entities? -Is there an internal economic/financial assessment of what would be needed to build a strong enough structure within our professional community to support specific educational research outcomes/provide significant pedagogical training/CE to developing academics from an OT perspective? What would need to happen within our Professional Association for that to occur? (RA motion/ AOTA Board of Directors action?). Changes in structure often involve a significant financial investment. Just some thoughts. As program directors, we are in an fabulous position to pool our collective talents and resources to collectively examine some of the important questions regarding the educational practices within our profession. At the first OT Education Summit in 2013, the Agenda for Occupational Therapy Education was presented. See attached PP. This agenda was based on input from multiple stakeholders throughout our profession and provides a useful starting point for discussions. I echo other sentiments, our ALC mtgs provide great opportunity for us to use some time at the mtg. to develop a collective research initiative. All the best to all of you for the new academic year. There would need to be some thought behind the potential questions so that they are relevant to this group vs. an expansion of now "sponsored" questions. LIke Lorie said there are just too many surveys being sent to this group. Think it is a great idea with potential! I know several programs have students conduct surveys to meet the ACOTE standards related to research and it seems like this may be a missed opportunity. What if we coordinated our efforts across institutions to conduct these surveys and addressed pressing issues that could help inform our profession? We could use the ALC to help populate a list of potential questions that different academic programs could then sign up for to have their students design and conduct the survey/study. The academic institutions would likely be more invested in responding to the surveys as well if these questions were then feeding back to ALC, AOTA, ACOTE, etc. Thoughts? Best wishes Tim Timothy J.
