RE: 2017 ASAHP Scholarship of Excellence Bortone, Prof. Joanne M. 19 Apr 2017 11:16 EDT

Last year one of our students was selected by ASAHP for the scholarship and Thomas Elwood Award. ASAHP also paid the student's travel & expenses to the fall conference in New Orleans. It was a lovely award's dinner to which the student invited her mother and grandmother. We sat at a table heavily represented by OT programs.

I encourage you to put forth a student nomination! Representation of OT in ASAHP has increased over the years and it is great to see our students shine in a national interprofessional spotlight!

[SAHP]

Dear ASAHP Members,

The application deadline for the 2017 Scholarship of Excellence and the 2017 Elwood Scholar program is Friday, June 9, 2017. More details on both of these awards can be found below.

ASAHP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Each year, the Association along with CertifiedBackground.com sponsors a scholarship program for allied health students enrolled in its member institutions. The purpose is to recognize outstanding students in the allied health professions who excel in their academic programs and have significant potential to assume future leadership roles in the allied health professions. Each student chosen for an award will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

ELWOOD SCHOLAR
The most exemplary Scholarship of Excellence recipient will also receive the “Elwood Scholar” award, qualifying an additional $1,000 in scholarship funds.
The following conditions must be met to be eligible for either of these awards:
Ø Candidates must be enrolled in a college or school that is an institutional member of ASAHP.
Ø Candidates must have successfully completed at least one term (quarter, semester, trimester, etc.) at that institution.
Ø Candidates may be enrolled in any health discipline except those in the MOD-VOPP (medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy) group.
Ø Candidates must be enrolled in a career entry-level, degree-granting program; all degree levels are eligible (associate, baccalaureate, master's and doctoral).
Ø Financial need is not a criterion for eligibility.
Ø Each eligible institution may nominate only one candidate for selection.
Ø A key point to observe is that each application must include a letter endorsed by the dean or director who serves as the official ASAHP institutional representative that supports the nomination and describes qualities of the candidate. A letter from a chairperson or faculty member also may be included.

The nomination form is attached. Full information can be found here: https://asahp.squarespace.com/scholarship/
